Abstract:

Background: Maintaining and promoting sexual health in older women requires paying attention to and meeting their sexual health-related needs. This study aimed to determine older women’s perceived sexual health needs through a systematic review. Materials and Methods: In this systematic review, studies conducted from the beginning of 2000 to August 28, 2022, were searched in Databases, Scopus, Web of Science, SID, Pub Med, and Google Scholar as a research engine. To access all English articles, keywords such as sexual health, sexual performance, sexual intercourse, sexual, need, demand, and women and their possible combinations were used using “AND” and “OR” operators. This research was implemented based on the criteria of the PRISMA checklist. The articles were evaluated using the STROBE and COREQ checklists. The thematic synthesis method was used to synthesize the data. Results: The sexual health needs of older women were categorized into four groups: restoration of violated sexual rights, elimination of age discrimination (ageism), promotion of sexual health literacy, and providing sexual health services. Conclusions: The sexual needs of older women have been neglected due to prevailing social structures of many countries, stigma, gender discrimination, and lack of sexual health literacy. In addition to the need for social and emotional support to adapt to the conditions of old age, these women need to achieve sexual rights, improve sexual health literacy, and receive health services.

This is a qualitative research based on a descriptive-analytic method. The data gathering tools include: 1. Documents (criminal court and police cases) and 2. Semi-structured interviews. It also uses snowball sampling which is a statistical population of women and girls who were sexually abused or exploited in cyberspace. In this study, a total of 30 alleged victims were selected through interviews. The findings indicate that the victims of sexual harassment in cyberspace such as the victims of real space suffered both physical and financial losses as well as psychological effects (stress, anxiety, suicide, fluency. . . ) due to conditions and features of the environment and offenders. In accordance with the severity of crimes, the victims are in needs of a series of medical, psychological and material cure as well as legal counseling such as information and details on such crimes. Abstract:

Background: There is limited data on sexual maturation among girls with intellectual, sensory, or physical disabilities. Objectives: The present cross-sectional study wasconducted to assess the sexual maturation of girls with these disabilities in special schools. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, we evaluated the onset and progression of sexual maturation in 642 six to 18-year-old girls with intellectual, sensory, or physical disabilities from special schools in Tehran. The participants were selected by multi-stage random sampling. Pubertal stages were assessed by visual inspection and palpation based on the rating scales of Tanner. Stage two (breast budding and pubic hair growth) and stage five were considered the onset and end of puberty, respectively. Results: The mean ages of onset of puberty indicated by breast budding (B2 stage) and by pubic hair growth (P2 stage) were 10.8± 1.48 and 10.79 ± 1.64 years, respectively. The process of puberty based on breast budding and pubic hair growth was completed at 15.58 ± 1.85 and 15.59 ± 1.8 years, respectively. The average height at the onset of puberty (stage B2) among participants was 128 ± 28.79 cm and the average weight was 8.31±36.47 kg.Conclusions: Among our patients, the mean ages of onset of puberty indicated by breast budding (B2 stage) and by pubic hair growth (P2 stage) were 10.8 ± 1.48 and 10.79 ± 1.64 years, respectively. Compared to the data from healthy Iranian girls, our findings indicate that the mean age of pubertal onset among schoolgirls with disabilities is slightly higher than that of their healthy counterparts.

Abstract:

Background: The sexual and reproductive health (SRH) needs of men have received little attention in Iran’ s healthcare system. Developing appropriate strategies to meet men’ s needs requires careful assessment and recognition of their health needs. Objective: The objective of this study is to assess men’ s SRH needs and satisfaction with received services. Materials and Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted with 1068 adult men aged between 20 and 60 years in Ahvaz in 2014. For obtaining the SRH services needs of men, in addition to the self-reported felt needs, expressed needs and unmet needs, a need assessment was also done using a questionnaire that was developed for the research; its validity and reliability were assessed. Results: The men’ s perceived, expressed and unmet needs for SRH services were, priority-wise, screening and diagnosis of male genital cancers (63. 3%), receiving contraceptive methods (36%), diagnosis, and treatment of male sexual dysfunction (86. 9%), respectively. Preventing sexually transmitted disease/AIDS (72. 1%), using contraceptives correctly (39. 5%), and resisting peer pressure (86. 6%) were, respectively, the first felt, expressed, and unmet skills men needed. The results of multivariate logistical regression showed that there was a significant statistical correlation between men’ s SRH needs and their socio-demographic factors (age, marital/educational status, income) (𝑝 < 0. 05). Conclusion: Iranian men have many unmet SRH needs. Felt and expressed SRH needs were different. Educational and counseling services are as important as clinical services.

Introduction: Teenagers (especially girls) who are going through puberty are among vulnerable populations whose sexual needs receive little attention. Objective: This study aimed to determine educational needs of 11-14 year old girls on sexual health in Dezful. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on 810 middle school girls aging 11 to 14 in Dezful city in 2012. Samples were selected by cluster sampling method. Data collection instrument was a researcher made questionnaire including 14 questions on demographic data and 46 questions on 4 domains of puberty, menstruation, sex relationship and reproduction using articles and resource reviews. Descriptive statistics and Chi-square, Kruskal-Wallis test were used for quantitative and qualitative data analysis. Results: The knowledge of girls on puberty, menstruation and reproductive was weak. Need to get information on puberty health (underwear wash with soap, shaving) and menstruation (age of menarche, menstruation blood source, dysmenorrhea) was 95.7% and 97.5% respectively. The most important source of information on puberty (51.1), menstruation (54.2%) mother, sexual activity (42.5%) friends and reproduction (32.1%) was sister. There was a significant correlation between mother's education level and need to obtain information on puberty, menstruation and reproduction using Chi-square test (P<0.05).Conclusion: In attention to the need for samples to receive information on sexual health and the role of mothers as the most important source of information to girls, people based training approaches (family education through health volunteers) is the best solution.

Abstract:

Objective(s): To validate Persian version of the FSFI and to determine its diagnostic cut off score. Methods: This was a descriptive analytic study. To fill in the Persian version of the FSFI. In addition clinical interviews were carried out by a psychiatrist on DSM-4 criteria. Women divided in two age and educational matched groups: the control group (n=28) who have not sexual dysfunction and the case group (n=53) who have sexual dysfunction. Data were analyzed by Cronbach’s alpha and validity was assessed by comparing mean scores of two groups. Optimal cut off score determined by Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curve. Results: The findings showed satisfactory results for full scale and each subscale with Cronbach’s alpha ranging from 0.66 or above for sexually dysfunctional sample and 0.70 or above for sexually active sample. Discriminant validity confirmed the ability of both total and domain scores to differentiate between active and inactive women. On the basis of sensitivity and specificity analyses we found that the optimal cut off score was found to be 28 for differentiating women with and without sexual dysfunction. Conclusion: The findings showed that the Iranian version of Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) is a reliable and valid instrument for measuring sexual function in women.
